Students and staff of the University of Lagos can gain access with the university identification cards. However, the ID card does not serve as borrower’s card. Non-members of the university can gain access on presentation of a letter of introduction and valid identification card from their institution or employer. An admittance card would be issued following registration and payment of a required fee at the Main Library Circulation Desk.

You may seek assistance of the Reference Librarian if the book you need is unavailable in the library. The library may request to borrow a copy of the item from another library via its Inter-Library Loan Service or purchase it.
There are several reasons you may not be able to check out a book. The most common are:
- The item is not loan-able. Examples of such items are print reference and other specialized materials are not loan-able. These items may be used within the Library only.
- You have not returned an item that is either overdue or has been recalled for another library user, or on reserves. If any of these reasons apply, please return the item as soon as possible.
- You owe fines or fees on overdue borrowed book (s). You are expected to make a payment towards the amount you owe, or pay the balance in full.
- Visit the Circulation Desk to report the problem, and seek assistance on how to remedy the problem.
Your Student identification card only grant you access to use the library, but you need your library card to check out or renew books. You may place a book on hold pending when you complete your library registration and present your library card to check out loanable items.
